Our Mission: To enable our clients to look and feel beautiful without contributing further damage to our beautiful planet.
Our Vision: To be recognised as Cambridgeshire’s most responsible and eco-aware beauty salon - leaders in the campaign to promote sustainability in the Beauty, Care & Cosmetics industries by promoting the usage and disposal of eco-friendly products and consumables to achieve the lowest viable environmental footprint possible.
WHAT WE'VE DONE SO FAR:

In 2020 when we launched our new ONLINE STORE we knew it would be a challenge to find 100% recycled postal packaging... but we’ve done it!! Even down to our cute printed stickers!

The ugly truth about the beauty industry is that it’s one of the worst culprits when it comes to plastic pollution. Our company mission is to limit not only our own impact on the environment, but others’ too. With this in mind, we launched our new Environ® Recycling Scheme in the salon; which aims to reduce the amount of Environ® containers that end up in landfill sites.

We've eliminated the use of plastic milk bottles used for staff and client refreshments and installed recycling and general waste bins in the kitchen.

We have installed energy-saving light sensors in every room where it is practical to do so. The lights automatically switch off when no motion is detected - simple changes but all helping to do our bit for the environment.

Having seen a TV documentary a few years ago showing distressing scenes of a turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nose we took the instant decision to use paper straws with immediate effect.

We all remember that eye-opening David Attenborough documentary highlighting the devastating effects that plastic waste is having on our oceans. Sadly, the Beauty & Care industries make a large contribution to this pollution and here at English Rose Beauty House we have vowed to aim for higher green credentials within the salon. We are also committed to providing alternative, sustainable retail products that are not only good for our clients but good for the planet too. We are proud to say that all of the award-winning brands we work with are either 100% ECO or are making viable steps towards this.

We've switched to using recyclable alternatives for all our packaging and retail bags - we even re-use packing received from our suppliers wherever possible.

And finally... we now use eco-friendly Jute Bags for our seasonal Gift Sets.

We're a little bit in love with Jute and here's why:

Jute is a 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly material and doesn't pollute our environments like plastic and poly does. The usage of jute bags help ensure that we keep our planet a clean and healthy place to live.

-
Jute is a vegetable plant whose fibres are dried in long strips. It’s one of the cheapest natural materials available. The plants from which jute is obtained grow mainly in warm and humid regions, such as Bangladesh, China and India.
-
Jute can be grown year-round and is harvested every six months. It can take decades to produce the same volume of wood fibre, which also requires much larger tracts of land to cultivate.
-
Jute is very strong and highly durable, 100% biodegradable (it degrades biologically in 1 to 2 years), low-energy recyclable; which causes no threat to the environment.
-
Jute bags can be used multiple times. Plastic bags are made to use once only, hence seeing them discarded in waterways, sewers, parks, beaches & / or streets.
-
Jute bags are seen to maintain their gloss and glaze for a longer time. They are made from natural fibre and thus are able to keep their strength for a longer periods.

Our client recycling scheme

Many councils are unable to recycle beauty packaging because it often contains mixed materials and elements that cause contamination. If it’s put into a standard recycling bin, it’s often rejected at a later stage in the process. To overcome this, we have launched the IIAA initiative to help our clients dispose of it in an eco-friendly manner. To incentivise participation in this scheme, we offer clients a £1 discount off of their next purchase of an Environ product; when you bring your empties into the salon to be recycled.
